Article I: Name of Organization The name of this organization shall be Nursing Student Advancement, Improvement & Development Society club, to be referred to as NSAIDS club. Article II: Purpose of the Organization The aim of the NSAIDS club is to be a resource center for the nursing student community at South Seattle Community College, with the ultimate goal of ensuring success of each student in the nursing program. The club will serve the needs and address concerns of those students involved in related programs and encourage and foster lifetime learning. By offering co-curricular and extracurricular services, the club will be a positive outlet for the creative energies of each member and provide opportunities to develop leadership skills, techniques and strategies that transfer to any work and/or social situation. The purposes of the club are: 1). To provide social support to nursing students and prospective nursing students by offering tips on organizational management and how to purchase nursing supplies at a discount. Committees will be formed to develop a library of informational brochures. There will be a copy of the textbook and other reference books available at the library. Our website will offer a forum to sign up for study groups and links to scholarship information, etc. We will provide a sale kiosk for purchasing/selling used supplemental nursing reference books, not listed on the required book list, textbooks and nursing supplies, as allowed by the SSCC contract with Barnes & Noble. 2). To provide students with an update of current health care issues and serve as a resource by providing accurate, up-to-date information about prerequisite requirements for entry into WA State ADN/BSN program(s). 3). To provide a cooperative environment between the campus and the community by way of hosting a health fair and job fair. 4). To provide extended learning by way of field trips to other nursing program orientations, nursing conferences and symposiums/career fair in the local area. May be postponed until subsequent quarters due to time constraints. Article III: Membership Membership is open to any student currently enrolled, or who has previously attended, at least, one quarter, at South Seattle Community College, who is interested in pursuing a nursing career. Students should be open minded and willing to participate and will not be discriminated against based on gender, race, religion, creed, etc. Article IV: Officers President: The President is responsible for overseeing and directing formal meetings, formally presenting ideas to the group, and acting as an envoy to the United Student Association. The President will exercise leadership and promote the club’s continuous activity for the following year. This will include presenting a compendium of information to next year’s president. Vice President: The Vice President is responsible for promotion, scheduling, and other arrangements for club events. The Vice President will work closely with the Recruitment officer to generate interest in the NSAIDS club and speak to the CNA classes at SSCC. The VP will also work closely with the Treasurer in the case of fund-raising events. The VP will assist the President in the coordination of events at the club, and in the absence of the President, exercise leadership. Co-Chair: If, in any case, both the president and vice president are absent, the co-chair will exercise leadership and will report back to the president and VP of the club’s agenda. Co-chair may oversee the bulletin board or assume the role of any officer who has resigned, until a qualified member has been voted into office. Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for recording and reading minutes of formal meetings regarding the internal policy of the group. They will also be responsible for maintaining a current roster of active members and facilitating communications outside of meetings. The Secretary will also notify club members of meetings and current club activities and events via e-mail. Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for NSAIDS club financial matters, including but not limited to establishing and maintaining a budget, acquiring necessary finances for club events, and tracking all monetary activity of the club, in collaboration with the Student Activities manager. Recruitment: The Recruitment officer is responsible for generating interest in joining the club by speaking to the CNA class at SSCC to get new members involved and, ultimately, to replace incumbent officers at the end of each academic year. Article V: Meetings NSAIDS will have bi-monthly meetings alternating between Wednesdays and Mondays and will be open to interested students and faculty. It is optional that an advisor has to attend, but they will be updated on current events and activities of the club by the president or officers. The advisor will mainly function as a resource person. Article VI: Finances Budgeting and expenditures shall be planned at a formal meeting in the presence of the specified number of group members. Article VII: Constitution This constitution may be amended by a simple majority vote of members of the club, who are in attendance at a regularly scheduled NSAIDS club meeting.
Article I: Membership Section 1: How One Becomes a Member To become a member of NSAIDS club, relevant information will be e-mailed to nsaidsclub@yahoo.com. New members must include what services/features of the club interests them. Members are required to attend at least one meeting per month. Membership is maintained by attending at lease one meeting/month. Minutes of each meeting will be posted on club website. Section 2: Termination of Membership Terminating a membership consists of informing the Secretary or Vice President, via e-mail, that you are no longer interested in participating in NSAIDS club activities and meetings. Membership will default to inactive status, and documented on the members listing on the website page, if minimal attendance at meetings not satisfied. Article II: Officers Section 1: Specific Duties of Each Office President: Responsible for overseeing and directing meetings, leading activities when necessary, formally presenting ideas to the group and acting as an envoy to the United Student Association. Vice President: Responsible for promotion, scheduling and other arrangements for club events. The VP will also work closely with the Treasurer in the case of fund-raising events and with the Recruitment officer in speaking engagements to the CNA program at South Seattle Community College. Co-Chair: If, in any case, both the president and vice president are absent, the co-chair will exercise leadership and will report back to the president and VP of the club’s agenda. The Secretary is responsible for maintaining a current roster of active members and facilitating communications outside of meetings. The Secretary will notify club members of meetings and current club activities and events via e-mail. The Secretary also forwards a copy of the minutes to the club advisor. Treasurer: Responsible for financial matters, including but not limited to establishing and maintaining a budget, acquiring necessary finances for club events, and tracking all monetary activity of the club, in collaboration with the Student Activities manager. Recruitment: The Recruitment officer is responsible for generating interest in joining the club by speaking to the CNA class at SSCC to get new members to get involved and, ultimately, to replace incumbent officers at the end of each academic year. The recruitment officer will work closely with the Vice President to coordinate speaking engagements to the CNA program at SSCC. Section 2: Length of Term Each officer’s term must last a minimum of one quarter and a maximum of 3 quarters. Section 3: How to Remove and Replace Officers In the case that an officer fails to fulfill their duties sufficiently, a motion may be made by any member of the group during a formal meeting to remove the officer in question. The issue will be put to a vote, requiring a simple majority vote of the group’s members in attendance at the meeting. Should an officer be pulled from their position, nominations will be open for a new officer, who, if voted into office, shall then serve the remainder of the former officer’s term and act as incumbent in the next quarterly election. Section 3: Resignation of Officers The procedure of resigning from an officer's post consists of signing a resignation form which states your decision and reason to relinquish your position. The written resignation form is to be given to the Secretary or Vice President. Once the form is received, an announcement will be made, via e-mail, to all members, of the resignation. Members interested in filling the position will contact the club and a list of all qualified candidates will be circulated via e-mail. Officers and club members wile nominated for office during the next vote. Article IV: Meetings Section 1: Formal Meetings All formal meetings include officers of the club. Advisor(s) are not required to be present but minutes of meeting will be e-mailed/presented to them to keep them abreast of all developments. A formal meeting is different from the general meetings of the group in that the issues discussed go beyond traditional group activities and concern the policies, politics, and activities of the club. A formal meeting will be announced in advance of the occasion, so that club members have adequate advance knowledge to ensure their attendance. A formal meeting may also take place at a different time from the usual meetings of the group to accommodate scheduling needs. Section 2: Number of Votes to Pass Business/Finance Matters A simple majority hand vote of the attendants of the meeting as specified by Article IV, Section 1, shall suffice to pass business/financial matters. Section 3: Minutes to Be Taken Minutes are to be taken at formal meetings. The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes and reading minutes of the previous meeting, should the need to do so arise. Copies of the minutes and /or agendas will be e-mailed/presented to the advisor(s) from each meeting and posted in downloadable form on the club's website under the Minutes of Meetings page. Section 4: Senate Reports The President is responsible for reporting to the senate once per quarter about the proceedings of NSAIDS club formal meetings. Article V: Finances Section 1: Requesting Funds and Approving Expenditures The Treasurer is responsible for compiling and submitting requests for funding, and, in conjunction with the President, is capable of approving expenditures. Section 2: Dues There will be no dues for the club. Membership is free to students/former students at SSCC. Section 3: Budget Accounting Responsibility The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining the books and establishing the initial budget for the group, in collaboration with the Student Activities manager. Section 4: Number of Majority Votes to Approve Budget Requests The budget plan must be approved by a majority of the members of NSAIDS club at a formal meeting. Article VI: Amendments Section 1: Type of Majority Needed to Make Amendments, Changes, Additions and Deletions to the Bylaws These bylaws may be amended by a simple majority hand vote to make
amendments, changes, additions, or deletions to the bylaws.
